Why this landscape

Gondia sits at the gateway to Maharashtra from central and eastern India, on the borders of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The tigers of Navegaon-Nagzira disperse across both state lines, which makes this one of the few places where a corporate conservation spend touches an inter-state population rather than a single reserve.

SEWA has worked here since 2014, and on tiger dispersal since 2011. Field teams are local, the Forest Department relationship is long-standing, and reporting comes from people who live in the buffer villages rather than from a visiting contractor.
